How do I care for my soy candle?Trim candlewicks to 1/4 inches each time before burning. This will ensure a long lasting candle, and minimize soot and remove any mushrooming of carbon on the end of the candlewick. For the initial lighting allow the candle to create a full and even burn pool across the entire candle. Keep wax pool free of wick trimmings, matches and debris at all times. For subsequent lightings our recommended burn time is 3 to 4 hours max and burn candle on a heat-resistant surface. Keep burning candles away from drafts, vents and ceiling fans to minimize smoking or wick blowing out causing the soy candle to burn unevenly. Never leave a burning candle unattended. Extinguish all candles when you leave a room or before going to sleep, exceeding this could cause safety issues. Keep candles out of the reach of children and pets. After the candle is completely burned down. Remove the excess wax and candlewick to reuse the jar.

How to properly clean and reuse candle jars.Throwing a lovely container after burning a candle can feel like a real waste when you could clean out the candle jar instead, reusing it for something else or keeping it to decorate a shelf or mantel. For example, after cleaning out the jar you can repurpose your favorite candle as a: Jar for spare change or keys Drinking glass Planter for small succulents or cacti Flower vase Pen and pencil holder Makeup brush holder Methods for removing Wax from Jars to Reuse. 1. Remove Candle Wax with Hot Water Place your spent candle on a protective surface, like a dish towel or a potholder. Boil enough water to fill the candle jar, then pour into the container, leaving an inch of space at the top. The water will melt the candle wax, causing it to float to the surface of the container. Let cool completely before removing the wax. With your sink drain stopped, strain the water and remaining candle bits. Discard or save the wax for future projects. Be sure that all wax remnants are out of the sink before releasing the drain stopper, as wax will clog a drain. Another strategy for getting leftover wax out of a candle jar is to let the jar soak in warm water. Put in a drain stopper and fill your sink with warm water. Remove the lid, if it has one, and let the open candle jar sit in the sink for 30 minutes. The water will release the wax at the bottom of the container and make it easy to pull out. Keep in mind that this method will likely remove the label on the jar. 2. Pop It in the Freezer Another foolproof candle wax removal method is freezing, which shrinks the wax. Start by placing a spent candle jar in the freezer overnight. In the morning, take the container out of the freezer and flip it upside down—the lump of wax should pop right out. If it doesn’t, use a spoon or butter knife to press down on one corner of the wax to lift and remove.

How long do soy candles last and, Can they expire? Our soy wax candles have a shelf life of about 2 years when stored properly. Loretta & Gene Candles don’t have a hard expiration date like foods do, but they certainly degrade over time. Eventually, they might become difficult to light or not burn properly. Natural, vegetable-based waxes like soy and coconut are more prone to breaking down over time. Once they start to degrade, the wick may become clogged and the candle will be difficult to light. We suggest to light candles within 6-12 months.
